1. Update on SABPA website
Some of you might have noticed that SABPA.org is undergoing some changes lately. We have started working on a newly designed web interface since March this year. The new website offers better content management, more security and dynamic information. We are scheduled to release the new sabpa.org in early September and will send out email notification to the members. During the transition, some pages might not work properly, we ask for your patience and understanding. Thank you very much.
2. The 4th SABPA Entrepreneur Symposium (Aug. 29, 2009)
About 100 people attended this symposium. Mr. Lewis Shuster's presentation was excellent and won loud applause of the audience. Everyone benefited from his 26 years of Life science entrepreneurship experience. Some people had a prolong discussion with Mr. Shuster after the symposium. Many volunteers, Yahua Liu, Hai Wang, Eric Hu, Xuefeng Zhu, Jiayi Yang, Tao Wu, Qi Wang, Kai Zheng, Lu Liu and Jerry Meng made this event very successful. In addition, we would like to thank Rosemarie E. Christopher, the president of RxResearch Staffing, who sponsored this event and provided ipod raffle.
3. 2009 SABPA Picnic (Sep 6, 2009)
SABPA held its annual picnic at the Carmel Valley community park on Sept. 6. The picnic attracted more than 400 SABPA members, their families and friends. People enjoyed a very pleasant time of networking and Chinese food in a sunny day. Many thanks to our sponsors who support this event and all the volunteers who make this event a great success! 10. Job opportunities at Sundia MediTech, China
Associate Director/Director of Medicinal Chemistry (3-4 positions)
The responsibility of this person will be closely working with our clients to manage medicinal chemistry programs in our Shanghai facility. He or she needs to do project assessment such as compound design and synthetic route evaluation, data managing and mining, and resource allocation. Another aspect of this person’s responsibility is to effectively communicate with our clients on a routinely basis.
A successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry, and over 6 years of drug discovery experience in US or Europe pharmaceutical/biotech companies with a strong scientific track record. Understanding the drug discovery process and operation within an aggressive timeline is required. In addition, the candidate should be able to solve problems associated with medicinal chemistry. 11. Introduction and free online subscription of Trends in Bio/Pharmaceutical Industry (TBI)
SABPA member has free online subscription of Trends in Bio/Pharmaceutical Industry (TBI), which is a scientific journal focused on the latest discoveries, innovations, development and trends in the various fields of life sciences, especially in research institutes and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Authors of TBI are mostly, but not limited to, scientific, legal and financial professional and entrepreneurs in US with Chinese heritage. The targeted readers of TBI are researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs and senior managers in biopharmaceutical industry. TBI is published quarterly both online and in hard copies.
TBI is the official journal of the Alliance of Chinese-American Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Associations (ALL-CABPA), an alliance of 5 nonprofit organizations comprising of Chinese-American Bio/pharmaceutical Society (CABS) in San Francisco Bay Area, Sino-American Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SABPA) in San Diego and Los Angeles area, Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association (CBA) in Maryland, Chinese-American BioMedical Association (CABA) in Boston area, and Seattle Chinese Biomedical Assocation (SCBA) at Seattle area.
